Construct New Quantum Research and Innovation Hub

Stony Brook University

SOQ Due Date:

12/03/2025

The Project will construct a new, approximately 100,000 GSF, state-of-the-art Quantum Research and Innovation Hub facility featuring purpose-built laboratories and infrastructure. The Hub will include multiple basement levels engineered for vibration isolation to support ultra-sensitive quantum experiments. Specialized infrastructure will be required such as: clean rooms for quantum device fabrication, cryogenic laboratories for low-temperature quantum systems, electromagnetically shielded environments for quantum communication and sensing, fiber optic backbone for high-speed quantum networking and entanglement distribution, dedicated spaces for Quantum Data Centers, integrating atomic and optical quantum processors with classical AI-enhanced computing system, and flexible lab and collaboration spaces for interdisciplinary teams working across physics, engineering, computer science, and materials science. The building will also house QUIST teaching studios for hands-on education and training and administration offices, meeting rooms, and outreach facilities to support workforce development and community engagement. Design services will proceed for the entire project. The available budget will determine the buildings' final square footage and programmatic elements, which may result in a smaller footprint than previously outlined. The site for this project has not been established yet. The construction value is estimated to be between $160 million - $200 million.
